Chapter 1-3
Chapter 1
It was a early morning. The bitter cold of leaf-bare upon the clans. BrookKit
awoke to bitter cold, but a crisp breeze. Her fur ruffled and she gave a mew of chill. Her mother ChillFur, huddled close to BrookKit and her brothers MudKit and BurchKit. “BrookKit, how about you and your brothers go out and see if the elders have a story for you?” mewed ChillFur. “Okay mama,” BrookKit replied. BrookKit pawed at her brother MudKit. “MudKit, mama told us to go out and see if the elders have a story for me, you and BurchKit,” mewed BrookKit. “Okay BrookKit,” mewed MudKit sleepily. MudKit's fur was all ruffled. She pawed at BurchKit. She told him the same. All three of the kits padded out of the warmth of the nursery, and into the brittle cold of the leaf-bare snow. The clearing was fairly empty. The elders were gossiping in there den. There den was a fallen oak that had leafs and twigs on top to block out the snow. The den was all closed unto this rock wall that took you out of the camp. There was a hole in the oak though, big enough for one cat at a time to crawl through. The hole was covered in moss. I wonder if they have a story about BrambleStar... thought BrookKit as they padded toward the hole. “ahhh, BrookKit come in will you?” meowed a voice from inside the den as they approached. BrookKit poked her head in. “Hello HollyOak,” BrookKit mewled.
HollyOak purred. “Have you come with your brothers for a story,” HollyOak said while the kits settled in the den. “Yes HollyOak, do you have a story about BrambleStar?” meowed BrookKit. Her brothers suddenly looked anxious. HollyOak nodded. “SpeckeledFur, what story shall we tell the young-ins?” mewled HollyOak.
“How about when that naughty old apprentice, BramblePaw went on an adventure to the never-forest?” mewled SpeckeledFur. “ahhh yes, that was a while ago, before you kits were born. It was a bright early morning like this one middle of leaf-bare, when that naughty BramblePaw tip-toed out of camp. You see we were all starving. He went to the never-forest, he thought that maybe if he could find some prey in there he would get lots of praise-,” mewled SpeckeledFur when she was interrupted by the howl from BrambleStar. “all cats old enough to catch there own prey gather under the high ledge for an apprentice ceremony,” rang through
the camp. BrookKit jumped! She had forgotten that her apprentice ceremony was today! SpeckeledFur was gazing at the three kits. “Well then, go ahead!” she mewed. The three, BrookKit MudKit and BurchKit ran to where they saw BrambleStar standing in the middle of the clan. ChillFur's gaze softened at her three kits. As brave as BrookKit could, she padded with each of her brothers at one of her heels to go up to BrambleStar. “MudKit,” mewed BrambleStar. MudKit looked up at his leader, also his father. BrambleStar's eyes softened. BrookKit watched at the side of her brother. “Do you MudKit promise to learn of the ways
of the warrior code?” asked BrambleStar. “ I do,” mewled MudKit so nervous his voice was just a tiny squeak. “then I am proud to give you your apprentice name, you now shall be called MudPaw until you get your warrior name,” rang the clan leaders voice. “Your mentor shall be, FrostFang,” mewled BrookKit's father. FrostFang came padding up to MudPaw. She touched noses with him and murmured a couple of words that BrookKit didn't catch. They padded and sat down. My turn my turn my turn my turn!!!! thought BrookKit. But her heart sank when her father called “ BurchKit do you promise to uphold the responsibility to become an apprentice to follow the warrior code and learn it well?”. “I do,” BurchKit was always the more brave one, his voice rang threw the clearing. “Then I am proud to give you your apprentice name, you shall be called BurchPaw until you get your warrior name, your mentor will be JayClaw,” he meowed again. JayClaw padded up to his apprentice and touched noses with him. When BrookKit was feeling she was about to get her apprentice name the clan called “BurchPaw MudPaw, BurchPaw MudPaw,” then the clan started to brake up. BrookKit looked around confused and hurt. Why isn't he calling them back, has he forgot me? Thought BrookKit. She looked around at the clan. She looked straight up into her father's eyes. He turned away as if he felt a pang of sadness. “BrambleStar, what about me?” BrookKit chocked out each word. BrambleStar's muscles tensed as if he were ready to leap. BrookKit felt a flash of hope. He is calling the clan back so that he can give me my apprentice name. BrookKit thought. But instead of leaping he just padded away into his den. BrookKit saw the dangle of hope right in front of her eyes, then it was swiped away. BrookKit just sat looking where her father disappeared in the den. MudPaw and BurchPaw ran to BrookKit's side. “What just happened?” MudPaw wheezed at his sister. “BrookKit why aren't you happy?” meowed BurchPaw. BrookKit glared straight into they're eyes. They stepped back a step or two. Then the rest of the apprentices swarmed around them BrookKit too. “Hi, BrookPaw,” meowed an all to familiar voice. It was her friend WindPaw. The other apprentices called they're names also. BrookKit yowled a yowl of stress and sadness. Then she ran as fast as she could up onto the big rock ridge. Then she ran out of the gorse tunnel. She ran into SandTwister by accident. “whoa whoa whoa slow down BrookPaw,” mewled SandTwister. “Don't call me that!” raged BrookKit. “why not? It's the warrior code to call them they're new name,” mewed SandTwister. “But it's not,” choked BrookKit as she looked deep into SandTwister's eyes. “What do you mean BrookPaw,” asked SandTwister. “My father, BrambleStar he didn't make me an apprentice WERE YOU NOT AT THE MEETING!!!” raged BrookKit. “No, I wasn't BrookKit... and I am so so so sorry that your not a apprentice with your brothers,” choked SandTwister very confused. BrookKit padded head down tail drooping to the nursery. Her brother MudPaw and BurchPaw gasped as they saw her enter. The to be mother HollyBerry, also gasped as she walked in. “sweetie pie? Why are you in here, you should be in the apprentice den with your brothers,” mewled HollyBerry. “Because, it's not my time to be a apprentice even though i'm already 6 weeks and a half,” choked BrookKit. “I am so sorry sweetie pie,” mewled HollyBerry. Tell that to my father! Spat BrookKit under her breath.
Chapter 2
“Why was BrookPaw going into the nursery?” BurchPaw muttered to MudPaw. “I don't know maybe we should talk with our father,” replied MudPaw. “okay let's go,” mewled BurchPaw. So both brothers padded off to the high-ledge. They leaped onto high-ledge and BurchPaw called out “BrambleStar?”. “Come in,” replied BrambleStar. BrambleStar was laying in his nest his paws tucked neetly under his chest. “ahh, my sons why is it that you have come?” meowed bramblestar. “We are worried,” replied MudPaw. “About what my son?” meowed BrambleStar. “About... BrookPaw,” replied BurchPaw. “She ran into the nursery, we don't know why.. and she hasn't come out,” mewled MudPaw. BrambleStar looked down at his moss bedding. “My sons, you know your sister is... small for an apprentice age,” meowed BrambleStar. “So! What does that have to do with anything!!!” growled both apprentices. What does that have to do with anything! How could he say that about his own DAUGHTER!!!! this is an outrage. “Well it kind of means that you are too young for an apprentice,” he purred with amusment. “No! She is not too young to be an apprentice!” growled BurchPaw. “Leave!” growled BrambleStar. BurchPaw and MudPaw stalked out of the den. “I can see why she is angry, shocked too,” mewled Mudpaw. “Lets go talk with her,” meowed BurchPaw. MudPaw nodded and they both headed for the nursery. “BrookKit are you in here?” asked Burchpaw. “Yeah, over here,” sighed BrookKit. BrookKit sounded confused. “Are you okay?” asked MudPaw with concern in his green gaze. “No! I'm not okay! Alright dad made you guys apprentices why not me?!” growled BrookKit. “Brook, listen dad didn't make you an apprentice because he thought you were too.. er.. small,” said BurchPaw hesitating. BrookKit looked physicaly hurt. ChillFur looked down at BrookKit as she padded in with fresh kill in her jaws. “What are you apprentices in the nursery for?” asked ChillFur BrookKit's mother. BrookKit let out a yowl of anger and sadness. ChillFur took a step back. So did MudPaw and BurchPaw I didn't know she had that in her! If she can yowl louder then anybody that has got to be something! Oh well I think i'll go ask if I can do something for IvyTail. Thought BurchPaw. When he arived at IvyTail's den she was asleep. BurchPaw prodded her in the side. Her eyes slowly opened. Then she shot straight up. BurchPaw shot right back a couple of tail-lengths fur bristling. “IvyTail it's just me!” said BurchPaw. “No it's not you I have just received a dream for BrambleStar. Come with me little one, i'll need you help,” said IvyTail. They both padded to the leaders den. IvyTial called to BurchPaws father. He replied “come in,” and they both padded in. BrambleStar sat straight up when he saw IvyTail. “I have had a dream BrambleStar,” said the medicine cat. “Have you, will you please tell me?” asked BrambleStar. “Well, I was out in the clearing when a bunch of cat poured out! They looked of all clans DarkClan, SpiritClan, and MoonClan. You would think MoonClan would not be the ones to attack but they did! All of the cats were following ShadowStar. They started to attack our camp but before anything I saw BrookKit twisting threw the flurry of tooth and claw toward ShadowStar! BrookKit took out her tiny claws and I didn't see the rest a cat tried to attack me. But after the battle I walked up to the dead body of ShadowStar.” Said the Medicine-Cat. “I will think about what you have said. Thank you IvyTail, you may go,” informed the clan leader.
Chapter3
BrookKit lay with her tail over her nose while she looked at the nursery wall. She smelled a tang of something. She tasted the air, she smelled many cats of many different clans. Then she heard a yowl that sounded like a battle cry. Then she heard battling cats, she poked her head out of the bramble screen. ShadowStar was on the high-ledge yowling out commands to the battling cats. Screeches came out. As soon as MudPaw came out of his den the only one with no battle partner just staring. Two bigger MoonClan warriors were stalking up on MudPaw. They stood up and cornered him between them and ShadowStar as he stalked up. BrookKit didn't hesitate. She flung herself at ShadowStar. Her short claws dug into his back and she bit the back of his neck. He let out a screech of fury and pain. He tried to fling BrookKit off of him. She scraped her short but sharp back claws against his back leaving gashes not very deep. ShadowStar rolled onto his back and crushed BrookKit under his weigt. BrookKit hissed after he got off. She sprang at him and dug her claws into his neck. She bit his neck hard with her sharp teeth. He let out another screech of pain. The battle stopped and watched the Kit, BrookKit fighting with her life ShadowStar. Nobody moved. Finally as if he were a leaf BrookKit made a deep gash down his throght and tore off part of the fur around it. She bit hard where his pink flesh show. A gush of blood filled her mouth warm and sticky but horid tasting. She spit it out. More and more blood gushed out of his open wound. The battle stopped as he dropped onto the floor and was yowling for help. He had just been made an leader with his nine lives. But BrookKit watched as one by one his nine lives slipped away. There he lay dead on the ground. Finally BrookKit felt the sting of a deep gash on her side. BrookKit hissed and all of the cats except for DawnClan, her own clan turn tails and fled. IvyTail ran over to BrookKit, she smelled her wounds. “My side hurt IvyTail,” complained BrookKit. Imediatly IvyTail picked her up the the scruff and ran to her den panic stricken in her cold blue eyes. BrookKit looked down at her side a big chunk of her fur had been torn off with deep gashes. IvyTail started pushing cobwebs onto BrookKit's side. MudPaw, BurchPaw, ChillFur, and BrambleStar rushed into the medicine cat's den. ChillFur gasped in horror as she saw BrookKit's wounds. She heard her mother panic stricken say “Is she going to die?!”. As BrookKit fell into unconciousnes. “My side hurts...” she trailed off as echos of her own voice rung threw her head.
BrookKit woke up in a different world. Not in the forest she knew. Hmm? Where am I? “Hello BrookKit,” said a deep, but calming voice. BrookKit turned around as fast as her body could. “Who are you?!” she hissed. “No need to be hostile, I'm DarkStar,” meowed the tom. BrookKit could tell he wasn't just that, he was a very muscular tom with black broad shoulders, and glowing silver eyes. “What do you want?” asked BrookKit. “Nothing much of you, just to talk with you, that's all,” said the Muscular tom with a reassuring voice. “I'm OwlStar, I was the leader before BrambleStar, your father,” said the strange tom. Still not convinced BrookKit asked “How do you know my name? And where am I?” asked the poor kit. “You are now in StarClan's hunting grounds. You are not ready to join us. But I'm here to tell you something, when you awake you'll find that you feel different. But don't be afraid, i'm watching over you, what I must tell you is, Stay away from the dark!” as OwlStar said those last few words he vanished! BrookKit then woke up. She did feel different. She felt, older. Like she wasn't a Kit! But even worse she didn't feel apprentice aged either! Just then a strange looking cat, with the same scent of BrookClan turned around shocked. “Your.. Your alive?” said the cat estonished. “What do you mean i'm 'alive'? I've only been asleep for a couple of minutes haven't I?” asked BrookKit. “Stay here!” Said the strange cat as he darted out of the den. Just then she heard a ton of yowling in surprise. I was only asleep for a couple of heartbeats, wasn't I? Thought BrookKit. Just then IvyTail came in, but she looked old? “BrookKit? If I should call you that,” said IvyTail. “IvyTail! I woke up having the strangest feeling! This cat didn't know who I was I didn't know who he was...” said BrookKit trailing off as IvyTail looked at her in astonishment. “BrookKit, this is.. amazing! You think you've only been asleep for a couple of heartbeats haven't you?!” mewed IvyTail. “Well, yes, Iv'e only been asleep for a couple of-” said BrookKit who was then cut off. “You! Youv'e not been asleep for a couple of Heartbeats! The seasons have come and gone yet you were still asleep! BrookKit, your old enough to be a warrior!” screeched IvyTail. Just then ChillFur and BrambleStar came in. “Mom, Dad?! What's going on?!” hissed BrookKit. “Your alive!” meowed ChillFur. “Go get BurchClaw and MudTail!” said BrambleStar to IvyTail. “What?! They're warriors and I'm still a kit! That's ridiculous!” screeched BrookKit. Then MudTail and BurchClaw came in. “Tell me what's going on here screeched BrookKit.
